Offensively, there's no real point toward being a melee Bard in BG1. You'll only ever have one attack per round, you can't have exceptional strength with base stats, and with a lack of shield-use, your AC will only ever be so-so at best. So, I tossed a bow on him and am going ranged support. Archery is pretty OP in Baldur's Gate anyhow, and since he levels so drastically fast, he's level 5 when most everyone else is 3-4, and can crank out three magic missile bursts.

It's still not GREAT combatively, but he's okay. I think this might be the first time I played a character that wasn't individually the most powerful character in the group. It's sort of refreshing.
