I'm glad I've jumped off this boat... at this point, unless you value authenticity a lot, which is fair, by the way, there's no real point to collecting a bunch of stuff anymore, maybe keeping a small collection only with the stuff that really matters to you, but besides that... it's just a scam, it's too big for its own good, gone are the days when it was possible to buy lots of good stuff for cheap.

Here's what anyone here should do, download full ROM sets, because we never know when it'll get taken down, download emulators you like to use, and back up on cloud or external HDD/SSD.

Next, you decide what devices are more flexible and convenient to you, and just play on that, the one thing I'd recommend spending on is a variety of controller for authenticity's sake, it's crucial.

P.S. A CRT's also great, but shaders do the trick if you're trying to keep your setup minimal, using only the things you already have, unless you do already own a CRT, if so then more power to you.

I know, I didn't pay much attention at first, but NES Tetris managed to get 5 votes since then, we have to wait and see about the GB one, maybe it'll make it in too, wouldn't surprise me really.

Well then, let's keep this up, anons!

I know that if my uncle gave me something like this for Christmas as a kid... he'd immediately be the "cool" uncle in my mind and I'd freaking love him. You did well, anon.

This.
I mean, to me it's just a matter that I've never once thought "Oh, boy! A QTE section, what a thrill!" in my entire life playing video games...

I'm on the same boat, but sadly we know how the industry is nowadays. All we have to do is compare Shandalar to something like Magic: Arena, I have no doubt the latter has made more money than the former, much more in fact, and it's probably much easier and cheaper to make compared to a full RPG with things like towns, dungeons, your own character which can move around and explore the world, etc. What hurts the most is that, with current technology, they could probably make an RPG that's superior and more immersive than Shandalar in literally every way, they simply don't bother because, well, why would they?

OP here. I feel that this is the key point here, in the end it's all about trying to mantain the enjoyment you get from playing, it's about keeping video games as something comfy for ourselves. I agree with your post 100% really, anon.

I don't find it embarassing at all, afterall it's still just the simple act of playing a video game in the comfort of our homes in the hopes of having fun with the experience. I always try to play something in the way it was intented, if there are unlimited continues and/or passwords then that's perfect, but if not then I try to endure having to go back to the beggining, afterall it's part of the experience, even if it can be tiresome when it happens again and again. Still, I mostly try to endure this if I feel that I'm still enjoying the experience and if I think what I'm playing is good, if I'm starting to dislike playing overall and/or if I feel that what I'm playing isn't even that good in the first place, but I still want to play the rest of it, then using a resource that allows me to not restart when losing is useful. I always try to use them only at the start of a level, and do my best to finish levels on a single run without using them again until the start of the next one, in a way what I do is use them to turn a video game without unlimited continues and/or passwords into one that has it.
