Adding to this, you're supposed to use the grenade/rocket launcher a lot more. The grenade launcher is usually obtained fairly early and ammo is quite abundant. Rockets are your Super Shotgun this time, so to speak.

Also, unlike Doom you have instant weapon switching, which can work wonders if you master it properly. I actually had an idea for a Quake mod that exploited this mechanic for maximum CUHRAZEE, but I don't think I'd be able to do such level of modding without GZ style levels of user friendly tools.

i will never understand /vr/ hate towards Darkplaces, i even understand that its not that retro.

But really, EP4 and most of SoA and DoE becomes creepy as fuck with those shaders

If nintendo wasn't fearmongering everyone, i would be glad if someone could manage to update Dreadnought with D4D/Prime mechanics, SFM is piss easy to find all prime and SMBWiu models with anims, and convert it to sprites
