I had the same feeling as you did, bro. It never got good. The whole game was a huge letdown. There wasn't any epic feel to the game. It's like the Squaresoft exhausted all of its creativity near the end of the SNES era and vomited out a lukewarm FF as a result.

The motive of the main antagonist was simply DIE CIS SCUM!
