This article is really interesting an shows both how the original game put so much thought into its art direction and every level of its visuals, and how it was ruined in the remakes which discarded most of these with generic unreal lighting and textures. Spyro 1 was a gorgeous game with a fantastic art style that's entirely lost in the remakes.

I've mostly just stuck to my PSP for emulating since my computer is pretty much 2006 toaster-tier that I'm still using since it works well enough for just internet stuff, apart from a few instances of it crapping out here and there.

With the PS3 and PSP, what you want to look out for are flash sales, since they usually have a lot of decent games, both old and current, for about $1 or so over the course of a weekend. Some other recent sales included Syphon Filter 1-3, Wild Arms 1 and 2, Dino Crisis 1 and 2, etc.

Where do you live that the games are $80 to pick up physical copies of? I mean, maybe things have changed since I bought my collector's bundle, but I still see the games pretty cheap locally, and the majority of stores out here like to try to fleece your wallet when possible.

>Also, what the fuck is the deal with the new Spyro design
I swear, Activision shoehorned him into Skylanders due to fear that a completely new IP with nothing recognizable wouldn't sell, only to give him an obligatory redesign of the sake of giving him a redesign that only serves to piss off people that might have bought it because Spyro was there.

The original trilogy were some of my favorite games growing up and I still love them.

The first Spyro is a bit simple in comparison, but the cozy factor to it, and the general care that went into it (though that could be said of all three games I think) keeps it a good experience, if you ask me. And it's not like it takes that long to play through either.

Posting some video links for those that haven't seen them.

Interview with Stewart Copeland on making the music for Spyro.

Makes me wonder if there a making of video for Spyro 3 floating around somewhere, but if so, I haven't found it on Youtube.

Yeah Insomniac did a good job choosing how to work that stuff. Even heard that was why they made Spyro purple, as a means of getting him to stand out in a good amount of environments, whereas coloring him the usual green might have caused him to be visually lost amongst hills and grass and such.
