So it seems that top down shooters get all the love, but what are your favorite side scrolling shooters?
Pic related. Had Super R-Type as a kid and I remember it being a mega achievement between me and my sister when we somehow made it to a new stage.

I was never a bad enough dude to finish this game. First got the game from the Virtual Console, ended up getting the psx port because I had a lot of fun with it. With hours and hours of gameplay I made it to level 7 seven, but dear jebus I don't know how the hell you are supposed to beat that level if you die midway through. Apparently that's not even the final level. Anyone with shoot'em up skillz beat this shit?
