I love both the original OutRun and OutRun 2. I haven't played a great deal of the original, but had a good run of it in the Cannonball source port.
As for similar games, would you say Crazy Taxi? One of my all time fave driving games, and similar in that it's about weaving through traffic and not 'racing' as such. More emphasis on drifting and the like.

Crazy Taxi is one of my favourite arcade games of all time.
Deceptively deep and so replayable, also just a really fun and light hearted atmosphere and gameplay.

I've been playing it again last couple of weeks, my god I love this game.
I'm sure I managed to get Crazy License at some point in the past, but I don't think I have the save anymore. I'm working on scores of about $15K right now, I'm sure I can get to $20K.
I also have problems with the route, I understand that you want to try and get a full lap of the city going, but I often find myself doing laps over the highway between the hospital/baseball stadium etc. It's not bad, since with Gus you can tear down the highway at top speed.
Anyone play Original Mode much? It seems much easier in some ways, although the city layout is a lot less linear and easier to get lost. Maybe I got the Crazy License on Original Mode.
I should try CT2 again as well, been a long while since I played that.
