Its simple but effective at making combat more fun. 9 is an impressive game and has fantastic polish, but I found Dragoon to be the more enjoyable of the two, which shocked me as well. I played both briefly as a child, but recently sunk my teeth into both and was surprised that Dragoon completely stole away my attention.

I love the game but Shana is like a walking example of how NOT to do a love interest.

She loves the hero despite not seeing him in like a decade and he sees her as a little sister. One he didn't see in a decade.

We're not given any reason to see why they might fall in love. Even if we accept she's been harboring a crush, that's still all it is. There's no real emotional connection where they come to see each other as they are. All she sees is the guy she crushed on 10 years ago and all he sees is his kid sister. Why should he see her as anything beyond his adopted sister? All Dart gets is his party yelling at him that Shana's not a kid and that he has to accept her feelings? How is that fair to him? Why do his feelings not matter? Fuck it's not even really fair to Shana because any relationship they form is dishonest at best.

Im not going to try and say Dart should have ended up with Rose. But his relationship with Shana is non existent. And it's a little infurating they just beat you over the head with the idea they LOVE each other.

Random watcher of stream. Haven't seen anyone play The Legend of the Dragoon in a long time. Pretty shit tho but I'm bored.

Recently found a working ps1 at a garage sale. This weekend I plan to go to a few local stores that sell retro games and buy back my teenage years. I used to really like playing jrpgs like Lengend of Dragoon and FF:VII. Other than those two, are there any rpgs I should keep an eye out for?

I have always wondered why people (especially on /v/ and /vr/) love this game so much?

I will give it props for trying to make battles more interactive by adding the press X at correct time parts and making the defend command worth using but other than that I really don't get what supposedly makes this game stand out. I mean it's not a bad game but I'm not seeing what makes it "great" instead of being decent which is how I see it being. Out of all the JRPGs I played in the late 90s/early 2000s this was the least memorable to me.

My current theory is that people like it because it basically is a Final Fantasy game without the words Final Fantasy on it's title making it a game that isn't too mainstream to like (like the FF games) but not too obscure to make people telling how you are a pretentious hipster faggot for liking it.

Only PS1 RPG I can stand to play anymore. The pace of early 3D RPG combat is a fucking slog, and games like Legend of Dragoon are some of the few that stand out from this apparent "golden era".
