I have the "Game Boy Color Q5 OSD IPS Kit with Color Changing Logo" and have not had any lagging or screen tearing at all.

On the 29th they are stocking special edition pockets but they will sell out within a minute. I'd say get a pocket during that if you can manage it. If not installing the screen isnt too bad.
