/vr/ - Retro Games

What are some games similar to Fantasy Zone or Defender? Where it's like a shmup, but you have more free movement and it's not auto scrolling? Bangai-O is a little like that as well. Most traditional shmups bore me, but I really like those games.

Except I never go there ever. Gaiares is pretty much the only normal "shmup" I ever liked enough to play a lot of and even here I rarely do more than skim the threads when they come up. This really isn't about shmups at all.

There's just something so delightful about Fantasy Zone that I can't not get a big grin on my face when playing. Even when I fuck up and die it's wonderful.

I want more games like Defender or Fantasy Zone or Bangai-O. Similar a shmup but with free movement.

I wish there were more SHMUPs like Fantasy Zone or Defender where you have free movement back and forth. Auto-scrolling in games has always been a turn off.

I only just got Fantasy Zone through the M2 3ds ports and it's blowing my mind how much I love this game. I can't believe I missed this all this time.

Fantasy Zone is pretty easy to get into, and quite fun.
