>World Cup USA 94 was officially licensed, to the point of even having that world cup's mascot, but strangely enough, all their player names were fake.
I hated the image based menus in this thing that were impossible to get around, but what I hated more was the gameplay, World Cup Italia '90 on the Master System played better football by far.

It's mostly because people who are into sports video games always want the newer stuff with updated players, teams and kits... but there's a few out there who do appreciate the old titles and even collect them, it's just that those don't represent a large amount of the community, at least not for the time being. We have a few fans that collect this stuff, but way more copies still.

I personally love sports video games and, unlike most, I prefer the more simulation ones over an arcade experience, though I enjoy those too if it manages to be well made and fun to play with.

However, there are so many different titles for the same sports back then, which makes it a lot more difficult to collect than anything else, it's a bit too much, so I just stick to emulation for this.

Konami experimented with a couple of football video games in the 80's and 90's, until they had both the Jikkyou World Soccer and World Soccer Winning Eleven franchises, the former is known as International Superstar Soccer outside of JP, while the latter was known as Goal Storm in few regions, but International Superstar Soccer Pro for most... it's a localization issue, they're not a single franchise, one was made by KCEO and the other by KCET, Konami Osaka and Tokyo divisions respectively. International Superstar Soccer Pro was renamed International Superstar Soccer Pro Evolution and then finally Pro Evolution Soccer, but in JP it was always Winning Eleven, while the Jikkyou World Soccer series got titles on N64, but ended on the 6th console generation...

Now Winning Eleven has joined its brother in death, and all that's left is... eFootball 2024.
