And I got it wrong. You can grind for XP on some missions where you can go round and round in circles and there's no time limit, but after a certain level(depending on the mission) your XP gain will be extremely low, so it was impractical to overlevel to beat the boss enemies. There was a also a very low limit to the number of items you could store.
