The Sonic & Knuckles cartridge was a really fun way to handle content addition. I wonder if Sega would have tried that with other games if they had the chance.

Did you actually know about this as a kid? Meaning, that it actually combined 3 and Knuckles and created a totally new campaign. I always just figured it was no different than when you do it with Sonic 2, aka it just puts Knuckles in the vanilla 3 game
