It's not that Cross is a bad jRPG, it's just that a small number of vocal people, as usual, are so nostalgic for their niche obsession that only they played that they compare everything related to it with an existential need to demean and spite, for spiting and demeaning elevates their conviction that they are in fact part of an elite, a group of abstractly "high value" individuals who understand the greater truth, among an undefined mob of uncultured plebeians who do not do so. Amusingly, the truth is often the exact opposite.
