The very first message board I ever posted on in 1999 was still up until last year in zombie mode. Then it finally disappeared. I hadn't posted on it in years but would still check it once a month or so or read some of my dumbass thoughts from decades ago. Something sort of painful about losing it.

The very first message board I ever posted on, an old boardhost one disappeared earlier this year. It was part of the "NES Scene" the first wave of post-market NES collectors and enthusiasts. For the past several years it averaged maybe one post every two months but I'd check it frequently out of habit. It was a huge part of my youth and it's just...gone, along with the dozens of personal sites the sceners had. I really miss the old internet. Feels bad man.

Picrel was the first gaming forum I ever was a part of - around 1999 or so. It was a gathering place for the first wave of aftermarket NES enthusiasts. We were all "collectors" but not in the sense that people collect today. It was more about exploring the library and enjoying games for their own sake - nobody was trying to get rich.
It finally seems to have disappeared in the past couple of weeks. Most of the users moved on years and years ago but the board remained and I checked it probably on a weekly basis even though it averaged maybe a post a month.
Just feels like another part of my youth, as well as the old internet died.
So yeah, what are some old gaming sites or boards that you remember? Bonus points if they are still around, double bonus if they are still updated or active.
