Right...like I said. A walking wall texture.
Seriously, I've tried this in other games...making enemies have a skin that "blends in" with common textures. It doesn't work except for at fairly long distances...as in, you'd start to notice the effect if you were, say, observing a monster that's standing the entire length of e1m1 away from you.

In some games, this concept makes sense, but in doom, engagements tend to happen in claustrophobic hallways and caves. You would almost never have an opportunity to use such an effect.
