Unfinished and not good. If you're a Sonic fan it's worth playing on an emulator once or twice then never again. Great OST though.
Would've fared better as a fully finished Saturn game.

Bad. Really really bad.

>Did they steal fans away from Sega and Nintendo?
Yes, especially Sega. I had Genesis and SNES and while I prefer Sega games, the Saturn was clearly inferior. More expensive, not as powerful in practice, and its library was poor. Ended up with only a PSX in the fifth gen which was far and away the best choice for us.

Keep in mind Sony in the mid-90s had a great reputation because of their electronics, while Sega's rep was declining in the home console market. Once they got into the vidya market it took little convincing for people to buy into PlayStation over a mediocre Sega product or a cartridge-based kiddie machine.

You know how "the 90s" ended on 1/1/2000, but people say the spirit of the 90s died on 9/11/2001 (at least in USA)?
I felt the same here. That OG era of gaming was dead and then:
The super rich corporations with no history in the arcades or 80s in general who were doing gaming as a side hobby (Sony and Microsoft) took over the home market.
Nintendo was relegated to handhelds and casual shit like the Wii.

That was it. And from that point forward there's been nobody to shake up the scene. It's been Sony, Microsoft, 'ntendo, and PC for over two decades. Maybe VR headsets will pop off one day. Oh well, it's always 9/9/99 in my heart
