the short version is he and velvet were meant to be joanna's siblings, but there just wasn't enough time/memory to do much other than pure exposition. it's always interesting to imagine how much more there could've been if the game was made 10 years later by the same talent.

that's hilarious - it's amazing how when you're young you're able to squeeze every last bit of fun out of everything, even something that would absolutely not fly today like the horrendous performance.
