Shmups. A friend of mine had a bunch of them (Tiger Heli, Gradius, Life Force, Section Z, Gun.Smoke) on the NES, but I thought they were kind of shallow and boring compared to my favorite games like Zelda and Metroid, which gave you worlds to explore. I got into the genre because of the later bullet hell stuff, and have since gone back to play a lot of these earlier games, and now I love them.
