Not so.

Most of the cheap AV cables with svideo on ebay are wired improperly.

Especially any that feature both svideo and composite leads. I recently bought one for my SNES that had no luma signal. The description was for a proper svideo-only cable too, so I filed and got my money back.

What they had done was put composite on the SVHS connector's luma pin to avoid running another pin to the SNES.

The result is that you do get a picture on svideo, but it's there's a shitton of interference that makes it look worse than the composite output.

I had to crack open the AV connector, desolder the composite pin, move it to the luma position and re-solder the wire.

The composite out was now black & white since it was carrying luma only, so I just cut that lead right off and turned it into a dedicated svideo cable.

Worked fine after that but I'd have been stuck if I were shy about modifying shit that displeases me.
