I don't know where you get your second-hand hardware, but more often than not consoles are in horrible shape. Especially handhelds.

I did the same as >>8373165 and replaced the shell of my AGS101 because it was totally scratched up. It's a pitty it's not original anymore, but it's much better to play on because I can actually see the screen now.
