No, they're not. Most of them weren't even alive when that displacement happened. The only reason they want more community is because they can't impress the handful of people they have now with what they're doing. The only reason they started playing these games in the first place was for the supposed "le hardcoar gaymuhr" cred they think is supposed to go with the genre. But when your "community" is a grand total of 12 autists, who are all at the same mediocre skill level, you can't really impress anyone.

Just look at /shmupg/ for examples of this. A Spanish guy who made big claims he couldn't prove who now spends his time making literally thousands of Discord posts a month about games he doesn't play or understand, some English guy who's only possible claim to fame was having been a BMX bike rider like twenty years ago who now lives with his parents and collects whatever the UK equivalent of welfare is, an actually autistic dogfucker from Tennessee who's decent at exactly one game and provides a Discord for the aforementioned Spaniard to shitpost on, a handful of troons and their closet-case beta orbiters, a lolicon Nazi fetishist, and a bunch of literal who nobodies all shitposting at each other and claiming to be doing it "ironically" at every turn. With one notable exception, they all finally gave up lying about their achievements when they realized that the only people they were lying to were other liars. It then turned into an e-celeb shitposting general.

This is what passes for a STG community, at least in the West.
