Is it the Duo-R or Duo-RX? The logo is on the upper left for the RX and centered at the front for the regular R (and it also determines what kind of default controller it comes with). It is still very beautiful in its "bubbly" appearance, since the weak portion of the regular Duo's design is the "cake edge" wave on the sides which reminds me of the bottom of a US SNES design. As for the original PC-Engine paired with a CD-ROM^2 in the Interface Unit, it is very Japanese in design, opposed to Western design in which having more than 2 fonts is a design faux pas with 3 acceptable in rare cases, the briefcase just blows that out the water with at least 6 different fonts on the system and still being appealing.

>>9142075
To be fair, the Twin Famicom systems are from Sharp and not Nintendo.

>>9143795
The US TurboDuo could be better if it were 2-tone as black-silver, but they went with black, blacker, and silver for a consistent western sensibility of design. I still play most of them when I have the time, maybe not the Twin Famicom since I don't have any disc games and I use a regular AV Fami more often. Lately been playing more Series X just to earn reward points.

I think it is a toss up between the original briefcase white PC-Engine with CD-ROM^2 and Victor Wondermega.

My favorite is the original white PC-Engine with the original white CD-ROM^2 in the suitcase. As for WonderMegas, I prefer the original Kareoke one with the motorized disc door.

Great choice. I think the WonderMega, white PC-Engine with CD-ROM^2 in the briefcase, and PC-Engine Duo are my favorites for looks. While the ugliest console is the PX-3600.

I like it in black.

I always wanted one when I first saw it in an issue of Famitsu back in the day. It is still gorgeous to me now.

I only played the Atari games because it was all I had at the time. I just can't get into them, Perhaps I am brainwashed to like stuff from Japan as all my NES stuff was branded with "made in Japan" as were the Genesis stuff I convinced my cousins to get. Even the Transformers I have were made in Japan. Now I was still fair then, as I thought a game like Mike Tyson's Punch Out was American, but I was surprised afterwards. When I got a 286 which got upgraded to a 386DX40 I started to appreciate western games thanks to the boxart to Wing Commander 2 and Ultima 7: The Black Gate. I have gone back to the many systems I had except for Atari. Their games just don't groove with me. I wish they did as the games are cheap for the system, but the systems are expensive now too.

On the contrary, I really want to get into Japanese PCs, I remember Amigas were the best cheapest way to subtitle anime, the Saturn is probably my favorite system as it has my 2nd largest amount of games I own to the 360 yet the Playstation and N64 has so much good stuff to play too (but I will admit the Jag, 3DO, CDi, etc. did not have many games that I wanted). As for retro FPS, I did get Catacomb 3D, Wolf3D, Doom, Quake, etc. as they came out as they were interestingly new, and aside from Catacomb 3D, VGA. Apogee games like Wolf3D, Raptor, and Halloween Harry really impressed me to get them. I tried all VGA games I could on my 286-12/386DX40 so Apogee has a lot to offer at the time. Most newer FPS don't really interest me as it seems like 40% of games are FPS to me, it seems like games are uninteresting unless you shoot something these days. However, I admit that may be a flawed perception..

>How many consoles do you own?
I own a few consoles, some duplicates in case of failure. I really want some of the new ones, like Xbox One X, PS4, Wii-U, in addition to getting a nice working NES, SuperGrafx, AV Famicom, 3DO, and NeoGeo AES. I wish I could afford to get them, but I don't earn enough to enjoy them. However, what I do have and kept I still enjoy just because I still have them.

>What made you decide to become a part of the console master race?
Games. I like them. I also played 8086s, Atari IIs, but my first computer was a 286-12 which got upgraded to a 386DX-40 so I don't particularly feel siding with anything. In fact, I recently got into portables as well, now that they have dropped in price and antiquated.

>Do you own a PC & emulate your consoles too?
Yes, I even have a dedicated emulation PC, because I would love to get into collecting arcade PCBs and NeoGeo, but that is way too expensive. I also emulate PC-98, Sharp X68000, and FM Towns games because I had wanted to play them so long ago but again, they were beyond my means. I do have a 486DX4-100 for the old DOS games I loved, but I still want to get a Pentium3 machine for Windows98 gaming, and maybe one day I should make a dedicated WindowsXP machine too. Partly because I cannot afford the newfandangled phones, I still use an Xperia Play, which has controller-like buttons and emulate that way, and still function as my phone.

My reasoning was that games were released first and at that time less censored from Japan. I got some more systems since from Japan too primarily due to the high cost of things here in the USA. I remember importing the WonderMega once no one wanted one and I always thought the system looked great. My first import system was a launch Super Famicom, which is sadly yellowed as I had no idea oxygen and sunlight would do that to the system, but now that they are so cheap I got another that is not yellowed, but a later model.

Sometimes importing would be my better option for systems, as no one around here is willing or able to do region mods. That's how I got a Japanese 360, a couple of Japanese GameCubes, 2 Japanese Sega Saturns, a couple Japanese PS2s and a PSone. I have the Super CD-ROM^2 but no matching SuperGrafx.

I even got some from other countries other than Japan. Such as my first Dreamcast which was from Asia because at launch they were in short supply. It plays Japanese games but instead of a 33.6k modem of a Japanese model, it just has a terminator which encouraged me to get a broadband adapter instead anyway.

My current 486DX4 came from the UK. All because I regret throwing out mine when I had to move in 2007. It seems like in Europe they kept all the cool old computers.

I was not a handheld gamer, so I avoided them all until recently, but the majority came from Japan.

I have to go with the cheaper option with my income but I need to satiate my video gaming preferences.

I cannot say about the original Famicom as I do not have one but the other two machines work fine in the US with their default power supplies. However, know that Japan runs at 100V while the US outlets are around 120V. They likely engineered those power sources to tolerate a bit extra because sometimes the electricity can spike or dip a bit, however constantly running at 20V higher will have that extra energy transferred as heat, so those old power bricks may be pretty hot without a step-down converter.

I cannot afford a step-down converter, so I still put my systems at that slight risk, but they still function well after all these years. I know there are some more modern power sources from China and Israel that can convert to DC without regard to the 220V Euro runs at down to the 100V in Japan, and adapts accordingly in a very efficient manner now (I think it is the different sized coils inside). I bought a couple of those but haven't used them long term enough, but they do run much cooler and nicer.

Okay, I didn't intend to blogpost and explain myself but here goes: I reuse and repurpose some pics I take from prior threads, this one being flashcarts general, I just reused some images I took with flashcarts in them.

>>4051908
The pic taken there was originally for a repair and TurboGrafx thread. My TurboDuo, recapped over a year ago, lost its sound and I will come to the hard decision to dump the system from my youth. Fortunately, I did get a Super CD-ROM^2 from someone, as they are not expensive, because most fail, but the one pictured was said to work, but I cannot test it and now with my Duo on life support, it was a good time to give it a try.

Back in the day, the SuperGrafx was the cheap device while the Super CD-ROM^2 was the expensive one. Now their roles have switched, so the Super CD-ROM^2 is under $100 while the SuperGrafx is the one that is at least $200. I got the TurboEverdrive during Black Friday, so it was $40, not $80. I would love to know where you can find a $30 PCE, because shipping from Japan would increase the cost to around $70 which is expensive to me.

>>4051910
I saved for almost a year to pay the $180 for a Framemeister. I got it from a lot of Bing points towards amazon gift cards, and reward points such that I can lower the out of pocket cost.

>>4051914
As mentioned, I am not smart so that would be why I flip burgers for a bit over the federal minimum wage. I understand there are many less fortunate in this world, and I am glad to be gainfully employed. At $8.50 an hour, my take-home pay means about $5.50 an hour. After food (I can't eat food from my work as I prepare the food on an ant hill), shelter, utilities, means to get to work, and occasionally clothes, there's nothing left for retro gaming. Thus my budget, I was just fortunate to have kept my old games and fond memories without forces pressuring me to sell them for $5 each at GameStop. I wish I can afford the latest gaming consoles and join my friends.

No and no. It did not cost anywhere near that much. I am just using old pictures I already took for /vr/ for convenience.

The Framemeister did not cost me half that, and the clone console works with the flash carts. However, I do use the clone console since my NES died and I cannot afford an Analoge NT mini (also I think the AVS is kinda ugly).

I want one because it has all those 8-bit cores. They say the FPGA cores are pretty accurate to a real NES with added bonuses too like increased sprite limit on a line. The system supports both analog and digital outputs too which is perfect for me. Also the mini can play games off an SD-card.

I just wish I had the money to get one. I still have most of my NES cartridges from my youth, and would love to play them again. I will have to get new custom cables for its analog output alongside controllers for the NT mini which increases the cost and puts it further away from me.

I've been in need of a NES. Yet, I still cannot figure the affordable option (aside from emulation which I already do) to take advantage of what I already have. My original one's power source burned out. Plus I actually like sharp pixels, I don't pay much attention to "what the developers intended" just playing to preferences I have which is how I remembered them in my past but more crisp. So slight stretching for rectangular pixels but still has the junk on the side for NES games.

I read/hear the RetroUSB AVS and this Analogue NT Mini have amazing accuracy due to the FPGA. The Analogue NT Mini is pretty nice that once the side firmware is installed you get a lot more systems, especially ones which I never played much of like SMS and GG (and I'm clueless with all those other 8-bit computers).

>>3887313
What if I already have upscalers (XRGB2, Framemeister, and OSSC), Everdrive N8, old square NES controllers? RGB NES and that HDMI NES are still well out of reach in pricing for me. I dislike the AVS maxing out at 720P with output restricted to HDMI only and find its drive door ugly for Famicom games. The Analogue NT mini offers all those other cores and ROM support plus option to output analog or HDMI, but is way more expensive.

>>3888024

I really wish there was a 486 core for the thing, that would be perfect for me.

I so want a 20-24" BVM or PVM. They are a thing of myth around me in this backwards ass place. Plus the ones anyone has to offer are over a grand on the other side of the country.

>>3889721
Shit! Not the same poster but I'm not underage and I have job that barely pays over minimum wage. Everything is fuck-expensive. Even those unmodded AV Famicoms. I feel bad.

No, my consoles are pure and I will not have a dirty Chinese bootleg game be inserted into them. Plus that bootleg clone console only does S-video and composite so it's hooked up to a cheap CRT TV (Admiral brand!) for a side setup.

That's just my luck. I only recently learned of the Treamcast ... would have looked great in this image of "alternate brand consoles" instead of a Dreamcast.

I am in a similar situation as OP. I have about 30 NES games, but no more NES. I have a CRT computer monitor but it only accepts VGA 31kHz and BNC5. I would really like a RGB modded NES, as that is how I hook up my other systems to that screen. The physical carts hold sentimental value to me as they were mine. I also have no experience soldering.

The RetroUSB AVS sounds ideal for me. Sadly, its asking price is more than most consoles I have bought. HDMI and RGB modded NES systems are even more. I just can't win.

>>3636406
>Anything in the realm of 200~ is affordable and fine.
I fucking hate being poor. I wish 200 was affordable. I am currently stressing out over $25 needing to be spent.

>>3636541
>>3638706
>>3646727
I remember my NES, SNES, and TurboDuo, kind of in 4:3 (with a bit of the solid color on the left for NES) on the CRT screens I played on. Some games I know account for rectangular pixels to create thier circles (linearity?), and some CPS1/2 games counted on the CRT to squash the wider reolution to 4:3. Since I got used to RGB line doubling on XRGB2 for sharpness/colour back then, I deal with the every other pixel being duplicated on modern digital displays.

>>3649315
>Just emulate and you dont have to deal with this shit. And can hook up to any screen you like
In my situation, my dedicated emulation computer only outputs HDMI. So I have one of those 3D 1080P ASUS monitors which claimed under 2ms of lag, but its TN panel is shit at color reproduction (like really shit). Limiting lag would be nice for Mike Tyson's Punch-Out.

I also missed out on getting an Everdrive N8, when they were discounted which would be ideal to pair with the AVS. I hate being so poor that I cannot even afford things even after discounts.

Okay, know the model number of the BNC card which the BVM uses?

My current computer monitor has BNC hookups but it is 5 cables (Red, Green, Blue, and I think one for vertical sync and one for horizontal sync) which is what my PC is using right now. However from the pictures I see online, the BVM's BNC has 4 plugs (red, green, blue, and I think both sync combined?), is that correct?

I appreciate the answer, which is one way I can utilize the switches I have. Yes, these are the systems I have for RGB output (well, not the WonderMega, but I have an actual MD/MCD2/S32X) and I'm still thinking if paying something similar to >>3598427 would be worth it. Especially when now I got to buy some new cables to go with a BVM plus control module (and the right hookup card).

I wish I can afford one. It seems really cool, especially since my NES died. If I were to sell off all my NES games, I still wouldn't be able to afford one, much less the Everdrive for it. I am jealous of you, because the NES still has my most fondest memories in gaming. I am currently settling for emulating NES games on a PC I dedicated for it (and my phone).

Actually, I intended to buy the 3 Everdrives for the Super Retro Trio to make a side setup on an old CRT TV. However, I cannot afford them at the moment, so the clone console just is sitting on the floor playing the one free bootleg I got plus I recently got those two cheap games. I am in no rush to get the Everdrives, because I do have a lot of games already and I already do have an emulation machine. The Everdrive setup sounded good at the moment, now not so much.
