Love her work, but I never cared for this one, the Cyberdemon looks too cartoonish compared to its in-game appearance, and Doomguy looks too much like Reb Brown, the backdrop and foreground looking kind of plain and underdetailed (but perhaps this work wasn't actually finished).
Brom got the monster down much better and with better looking surroundings, and Doomguy facing away from the viewer helps keep him more anonymous. I do love Bell's cover for Wolfenstein 3D though, even with the weapons being wrong (that AR15 being at least three decades out of place, and B.J's big gun not even existing in the game itself), I just love the poses and the look on B.J's face.

I always loved her unused Shadow Warrior boxart a lot.

Here's another piece painted by Julie Bell, this one was intended to be the cover for 3D Realms' Shadow Warrior at some point, but that would change.
The weird armblade you see on the ninja was intended as a weapon but this was eventually scrapped, the big badass serpent demon is actually in the final game.

Shadow Warrior was actually in development for a very long time, and changed direction quite a lot, there's crude prototype builds and assets dating back as early as 1993, and probably had been planned and spitballed as far back as 1992, and this was long before it had that vulgar attitude and detailed violence which 3D Realms made its hallmark with Duke Nukem 3D. Looking at some of the very early builds, you'd probably never guess it was supposed to be Shadow Warrior, there was more of an intended focus on swords, magic, and classical ninja weapons. Somewhere around 1995 or 1996 they were getting more ballsy with it, including the possibility of the player being decapitated, where you'd see your head flying off (in first person somehow), and then your head would start vomiting profusely (with no stomach connected).

The 2013 reboot seemingly lifts a few ideas and concepts from the original game's development, such as focus on swordfighting and spellcasting.

JESUS FUCK THAT TOOK FOREVER

Anyway, enjoy this oldschool painted cover, it was intended for Shadow Warrior, way, WAY back during its development.
That game has Alpha builds dating back as early as 1992, seriously.

Blood is much harder than Shadow Warrior and Duke 3d. First levels suck because of lack of ammo.
