Okay next let me talk about Saturn. In the US, a Saturn will cost you a bit more than a Super Nintendo. Real games are even more expensive than Super Nintendo and the masterpieces are relatively few and very expensive. You have to get a modchip to play burned games and while it can be found for less than even the flash carts, it does require an install. As modchip installs go it's a pretty balls easy one but it's still a disassembly and installation and a tiny bit of soldering.

Once you have the modchip you can play the really good US games burned but to open the world of Japanese gaming, where the vast bulk of the good Saturn stuff is found, you ALSO need a region bypass card for sure and you might as well get the RAM expansion, memory card, and game "enhancer" in the all in one "Action Replay 4M+". This is the cartridge you want for your Saturn but it'll cost you another ~$40 which pushes the whole price for the system fully modded up above the price of the SNES with flash cart - it also is slightly more expensive to play on legitimately right now considering it's a free mod to make SNES play Japanese games.

Still the Saturn has a WAY cool library with great and innovative RPGs, awesome arcade ports and Japanese retro compilations, just tons and tons of sweet Sega stuff when Sega was still cool... in Japan at least.

There are some. cool arcade sticks for this beast too.. Additionally on the topic of controllers try to get a Saturn that comes with a second wave controller like the one in the pic. The other one's not so bad but it's a little weird.

I want to buy a Sega Saturn. Any suggestions and recommendations? I'm already thinking of Virtual On since it looks like decent fun and it's not too expensive online.
For the record, I'm not interested in any of the fighting games aside from Megamix.

I'm strongly contemplating getting a Sega Saturn,
But as an Australian- where the Saturn was never released to my knowledge, looking to play games from both the US and Japanese imports, is there anything I should know before pulling the trigger?

Region locking, voltage disparities, console mods, etc.

I tried Albert's Odyssey, Burning Rangers, and Astal, and didn't really care that much about any of them.

Gonna try Panzer Dragoon when I get home, but are there any other Saturn games I should try (/v/ recommended list is shit)?
