>If someone makes a low resolution "pixel-y" game today it's an artistic choice
No it's not.
Even troon indie games look better on a CRT at their native res or preferably on an LED Grid.

Integer scaling is garbage and ruined entire generations.
There is NOTHING WRONG with square pixels, but there is plenty wrong when you multiply them with integer scaling.

People need to be educated on this already.
I AM SO SICK OF HEARING FUCKING IDIOTS SAY "INTEGER SCALING = RAW PIXELS HERPDERP"

>So when /vr/ says "games were designed for a consumer composite CRT" that actually includes a very broad range of possibilities.
No. Stop complicating things.
Games were displayed on a 320x240 viewport therefore anything more than 320TVL is placebo.

We've been through this shit dozens of times before

Tl;dr
1. Motion is still shit due to low brightness(MicroLED will solve this)
2. Input lag is still shit on average due to electronics being used on Monitors/TV's(can be and will be fixed in the future)
3. Not enough resolution to emulate masks properly(8K+ is needed minimum).
4. Lightguns will never work without modification due to how modern displays work. CRT's used to work in a much more predictable pattern. Only chance we have for unmodifiied Lightguns working is if somebody makes Boutigue Retro Gaming Displays 10-15 years from now which work in the same predictable fashion as CRTs.

There, all covered.
Somebody save this pasta and post it whenever people post about this shit.

>it's square pixels
That's wrong. It's 1:1 pixel aspect ratio not necessarily square pixels.
A circular pixel is also 1:1 technically.
