Street Fighter going straight cartoony was awful, how can you not look at the bloody and bruised faces in SF2s character-defeated portraits and see the series used to have some grittiness to it? It started veering into anime territory with the Alpha series but even then it still had some bloody beatings in the endings and characters were straight up killed by Akuma or Bison. Now no one dies in SF canon-wise, Charlie is alive again, there are no stakes.
