Please tell me that I'm not the only one that bought one of these at RadioShack back in the day just to listen to my N64 in surround sound. I had to purchase an in-line volume adjuster to go with it, but when I put those headphones on and started up Mario64, the sound of the waterfall behind me was epic.

Avoid the built in sound. Instead, use one of these all-female phono/rca to 3.5 mm adapters. plug your left/right audio from your console into one end, and the other end into a pair of headphones or a set of PC speakers. I'm using a cheap pair of Logitech Z150 with my PVM

Use one of these to connect audio from consoles to a pair of Logitech LS-21s. You'll never need anything more

bnc to rca adapter for composite. Yes you need s-video, it's way better.

Easy/cheap stereo solution is one of these and some cheapo Logitech pc speakers, ones with a headphone jack are good choice
