I would disagree, there's not much special about the battle system, and the junction system aside from being able to put status effects on your normal attack and what not, is no where near as interesting as the materia system from 7 which requires experimentation. The junction system is just boring and a fill in for equipping armor that gives you beeg numbers. Not even saying FF8 is a bad game, but the gameplay is nothing special and way less interesting than FF7's.

I can't replay FF7 without having a guide next to me for the 100%, there's a lot of spells and monster skills not to mention two weapons for Barret and Caith Sid that are completely gone once you pass the places where you are supposed to get them.

Do people still collect strategy guides?

CaitSith, Barret and Cid best Weapons can be missed, so use a guide for that, also there are some materia that can be missed forever, not to mention Bahamut Zero.
