And also Half life mods, and the bottomless well of Thief gigantic fan missions. And some of Duke.

Regardless I love some of these experiments like elderborne. Its good to experience good fps, rts or rpgs even simulation games before it all turns to streaming shit in a couple years\decades.

Of course most devs dont understand Souls games, they are usually made by people that dont have the historical knowledge pedigree.

You can see From soft devs ( in can also see this occasionally on some western stuff, but rarely, mostly on autismo D&D session or Riddle of Steel ) understand melee weapons just of course gamifying them.
It does not need to be ultra realistic, after all the zweihander handles ridiculous but its the the thought that counts. You can still feel like a lowly human fighting a minotaur and using the spears reach to out range it.

The insane amount of weapons comes from igavanias as well, and the gameplay elements were there as well, spears also were for long reach. Although if you look at From soft FPS games you also had more swords than and little to no spears.

I think FPS design makes spears and halberds difficult to use. It would mostly be a stabbing motion, although a halberd works as a swing.


I am honestly surprised by Elderborne recently it does the Dark Messiah combat well and manages to implement a cool design for spears and other weapons.

We are definitely in a long plateau of graphical improvement.

Which honestly I dont mind, it would be cool to see things skyrocket in visuals, that was part of the charm in the late 90s.

But the current dark age will be good, most games will return to niche status which is good. While the rest plays gay apex chink whatever.

I think videogames created an already good core audience of people who either play or create games, hence the renaissance in some many genres, even rts, city building, simulation, rpgs etc. And retro fps has strong nucleus as well.

Wrath plays well so I was glad with that, feels nice to shoot, although I have no idea why did they have to put a shitty biosludge unreal type weapon in it.

I dont know, they look lame.

But yes Graven does not look like Hexen at all, its a lot more cartoony than Hexen 2 90s edge. I like that they are not going for an amid evil arcade type thing, its seem more in depth with inventory and such. But I hate how it looks.

IF I never had a problem with how it looks, its gorgeous. My beef was always with how empty Shelly and Heskel are.

Honestly if the game was like from a moebius comic with that Chilean crazy dude writing it would probably HAVE rare sexy combine, using their alluring but distant sexuality to further demoralize and control the last remaining humans inside the no reproduction zone even more crazy.

Like informants could be paid by having sex wiht thsoe combine.

Dont remove the helmet thought, the guy that did went crazy mute and disappeared soon after.


But its the 21th century. Adult themes even for escapist young adult entertainment still a fucking issue.
Unless its brutal gore and violence and impaling Lara on spikes I guess.

I love this period of 3d models where all the shading had to be done in the texture itself. People complain about how shitty 90s 3d looked, but the problem is theyre playing games that lacked good pixel artists. Like Goldeneye or Tomb Raider.

I can't imagine it'd be too hard porting Hexen 2 models, or models from most games really using Noesis.
