None of them are as good as arcade games and the ones that were close are now sad reminders of what could have been.

Fighting games tend to be different from most genres. They're not like platformers or rpgs where most people play many different games in succession. Some do, but the core fighting audience tends to find one or a few games and then really put time into mastering them because they're really in it for the multiplayer. Also balance is extremely important in these games and It's proven quite hard even for seasoned developers to get right.

Because of that, fighting games get very polaraized and unless something is excellent it tends to get ignored. Basically if it's not good enough to build a scene around, to the majority of the player base it's pretty much trash because it's not worth mastering.

So even though something like Weaponlord had amazing potential, very cool (and unique for their day) systems, it was developed for 16 bit consoles and that forever gimped it. It's always felt like a console port of a much better arcade game, but that game doesn't exist. That's not to say it's bad though, in many ways It's a really good game. It's just not a GREAT game, and because of that it never widely deemed worth learning competitively.

Now that's also not to say there aren't people who play them single player sort of like other action games and then move on when done. But they're much fewer and don't tend to hang around fighting game circles. So that's why if you ask about something like what you posted (which btw I'd never even heard of) from most groups of fighting game fans you'll just hear why they don't like it and then go back to talking about Street Fighter frane data.

Weaponlord has so much going for it but misses tge mark and is a slow choppy mess. What other games desperately need a remake?
