Tech advancements meant studio's moved to various CVS systems. This is very important for larger projects if you want things like source files before conversion/baking.

Its also the point where storage mediums started consolidating into more common trends. A HDD from 2000s onwards is more likely to be SCSI/IDE with common ports, a common NTSC/FAT file system. On top of enough storage space and GB/$ that you can start affording to just store a disc instead of reusing it.
Before this consolidation the only good storage medium would be tape drives intended for archiving. Which meant foresight enough to burn them to tapes, and store those tapes.
And tapes is still the gold standard for backups, due reliability/sturdiness and TB/$.
