Well, Nintendo did have that whole Vs. System series of NES-to-arcade ports, but yeah, Zelda isn't one of them. It wouldn't have translated well to a coin-op two-player format, unlike, say, Super Mario Bros., Duck Hunt, or Castlevania (all of which received ports that way).

This is correct, also Miyamoto had a special love for Doki Doki Panic and wanted it to reach a wider audience

Simple answer, because SMB is too easy. The US got the best of both worlds with the arcade game Vs. Super Mario Brothers anyway. It has the later, hardened versions of the earlier stages from SMB substituted backwards and the late stages have the best most properly balanced stages fro SMB2J hand selected and arranged.

No repeat levels, no 1up farming, warps severely limited, native RGB. This is the true best /vr/ Mario.

There's only one perfect Mario game:
>no farming
>no flying over levels
>no exploring
>no backtracking
>minimal warping
>cut scenes so short they barely count as cut scenes
>hard but fair difficulty

He means Vs. Super Mario Bros. One might argue it's the definitive SMB actually.

I'm working on Vs super mario bros now. Moving around the hidden powerups was a dick move...
On the other hand the name entry music is pretty cool.

>SMB was always superior to SMB3 imho, the controls were tighter and clean runs at break neck pace in SMB were unrivalled by any other SM games. You didn't feel like there was a page of coding between you and mario, like you did in SMB3.

SMB and SMB3's controls both feel tight as hell, but there always feels like there's just more complexity to the way mario jumps in SMB.
On the other hand that's pretty much the only count where SMB is better than SMB3, so as a whole I prefer SMB3.
