/vr/ - Retro Games

I prefer playing on my CRT through s video, component or even composite for genesis and NES. Nostalgia is a big factor in retro gaming. I tried to play some games like Majora's mask and other gamecube games through emulation with filtering, upscale high res etc on my 47 inch HD LED tv. Didn't like the modern feel and my old crt with systems set up gets way more play. I save the HD and ultra graphics for new games. But I can see how younger people would not be able to get into the old technology as they weren't alive during the glory days of sitting in front of the tube with a wired controller and not worrying about every little graphical detail, just playing the game for what it is ( not for graphics).

Hay guise, I recently got picked up some random old rpg's from a local game shop and also garage sales. I have Xenogears, Parasite Eve, FF III ( snes), EGG ( Dreamcast), Star Ocean Second Story ( Played and beat it many years ago when I was little), Shenmue, and FF IX. Any reccomendations on which one to start with ? I haven't played jrpg's in many years so which one should be the best for easing back into the genre ? Thanks for any help.

Hey guys, I am planning on playing old ps1 rpg's that I never got around to such as chrono cross, Breath of Fire III, Parasite eves, Xenogear, etc. I was thinking of getting a ps3 as I only have a ps2 / ps1 right now. I had a ps3 a few years ago but it literally broke after like a year ( stopped reading discs). I'm wondering are the newer models of ps3 more reliable ? I was specifically looking at the 500gb last of us edition super slim. Or should I just play those old games with ps2 / old crt tv ? Thanks for any advice on this.
