WHAT WERE THEY THINKING

So whats the deal with Diablo 2?
I remember playing and enjoying Diablo 1 a couple of years ago, I didn't grow up with it but I had a fun time, It was short and sweet and it didn't overstay its welcome.

Maybe its because I played Diablo 2 straight away, or maybe the Necromancer was a bad choice to start but what ended up happening was that I got fed up with it by the desert area.
So whats keeps people coming back to the sequel? is it the online? nostalgia? both?
I even tried a one or two successors like Grim Dawn but the ARPG style of uberclicking doesn't seem to sit well with me, which is weird because I didn't mind D1.

maybe I should give it another chance with a mod or something.

I've had the Diablo battlechest for AGES and although I have loved original Starcraft/Warcraft forever and played them tons I have sadly never bothered to do a full playthrough of Diablo.

Well that ends today, my question to you is:

What class should I pick?

Can we have a Diablo/Diablo 2 Thread? I have been playing Eastern Sun for D2 and am wondering what mod I should play for D1 to make it a better experience when I finish this one.
