My first day....

>opening scene is somehow symbolic of the many offenses this game commits against the player.
>game starts the player off in the middle of combat.
>It's difficult to find the words to express how galactically stupid this is.
>initial tutorial on how things work in the Gothic universe is happening while I'm getting my head caved in by an orc
>Even better, the game doesn't bother to pause while I'm accessing my interface, equipping my weapons, moving stuff to my hot bar or reading my tutorial text.
>boringly generic fantasy tale badly told through atrocious dialogue and voiceovers that run the gamut from acceptable to truly dire

For all the good elements in quest and world design, even here the game manages to screw up. Supporting one side or the other will eventually piss off the other side so badly that their strongholds will attack you on sight. That's fine except that in order to complete the main story, players must acquire certain items and complete certain quests from both sides. Since there's no way to go back after falling into one faction's bad graces, it's entirely possible to be unable to complete the game just by playing the game as designed.

>The player interface for character development (and inventory control and the quest journal and myriad other functions) is simply terrible.
Even worse, the skill tree can't be open when the player is making selections during skill training. These choices are offered in a dialogue box as a simple list with no other information accessible during the decision process. It's the RPG equivalent of developing a character by dropping the Dungeons & Dragons Player Handbook on the ground and selecting the skill on whatever page it opens to.

I can't stand it /vr, how do you play this?

After 25 years of buying the newest console and games, the push for digital media, mandatory installs, updates, dlc, micro transactions and internet dependent games drove me to give up on the next generation from here on out. I’ve gone back to older consoles, primarily the PS2 for exactly that reason. I want an easy, pick up and play experience and the enjoyment of having the game in hand, the box art, having it on the shelf and knowing it’ll work every time.
I don’t see anything new ever giving us an experience like that again. Retro games and consoles will only become more valuable because of that. And fortunately, there’s many to choose from with huge libraries of games I’ve never played and many I’d be happy to play again.

As time passes more an more CRT's either get sent to the landfills or fall into the hands of a collector who will take it all the way to his grave.

It's a matter of mathematics and the sum falling over time. Demand continues to rise, supply has been 0 since 2007.
