Every thread on /vr/ devolves into meta now. This board was good while it lasted. RIP

Shitty image. This picture assumes the developers wanted a perfect circle and not an oval.

Late Millenial. The sixth gen was the last generation before on-disc DLC, microtransactions, an onslaught of FPS games, the focus on multiplayer and online play since that became mainstream, and the economy taking a shit causing games to become ludicrously expensive to produce. It was also the last gen before stealth games died, platformers died, JRPGs died, manuals died, and physical media died. Before social media and toxic fanbases. Before casual-pandering, SJW-pandering, and nostalgia-pandering.

The PS2 era saw a boom in new franchises that became the new standard for their genre, and incarnations on longrunning franchises that had some of the most solid design work of all time. Half-Life 2, Devil May Cry, Metal Gear Solid 3, Resident Evil 4, God of War, Ninja Gaiden, Ratchet & Clank, Shadow of the Colossus, Splinter Cell: Chaos Theory, FEAR, GTA, the list goes on and on. From 2004-2005, you had an absolute glutton of kickass games coming out one after the other.

>the most dogshit level design they could make
What the fuck? X5 has some of the most inventive and unique stage concepts in the entire series. Crescent Grizzly's stage has to jumping across exploding trucks against a time limit. Tidal Whale's entire stage is one long 3-phase boss battle. Spiral Pegasus has you racing against the clock to disarm bombs. Dark Dizzy's stage has two different layouts depending on what order you jump into the portals. Also, the final stages are epic and feel conclusive to the series. The level design itself is perfectly fine, unless you just suck.

>frustratingly difficult (no not the good kind of hard)
I beat it when I was 7 you fucking pussy. The only bullshit level is Zero Stage 1, and even then you just need to use Dark Stopper or whatever that weapon is.

>an obnoxiously forced story thanks to point one
Alia aside, every cutscene in the game is shorter than the FMVs in X4.

>your hand is constantly held in every goddamn level also thanks to point one
Oh PLEASE. Alia never tells you anything you don't already know.

Hi /vr/, I've been hovering around the CRT threads but I haven't really gathered what a beginner CRT enthusiast should get. I've got like 10 bucks to spend, should I just go to my local thrift shop and look for whatever Trinitron I can find?
