>Increase resolution
>HUD takes up less screen space, can see more of the screen, wider field of vision, camera is zoomed out more
>Play modern game
>Increase resolution
>Hud gets scaled up, visible area is the same, only the graphics improve

This is something I thoroughly hate about modern games. I have a rather large TV and by God I intend to use it, but someone somewhere decided that we should not have massive viewable areas on-screen.
