>Also AM2 is known for racing games
Or, you know, Space Harrier, which defined the 3D/pseudo-3D shmup genre.

They play in a 3D space, though, whether they're using sprites or polygons. And since you're constantly moving forward through the stages, in autoscroll fashion, that makes them shmups, just with the addition of Z depth, as opposed to only X and Y with 2D shmups.

Friendly bump hoping this guy eventually comes back. Would love to hear his thoughts.

Belt scroller got it's name because it looks like you're on a conveyor belt. You're talking about rail shooters, cause I guess it's like you're on a rail... Japanese are weird with their terms.

Anyways, my vote goes to Space Harrier.

I just like all manner of games. Console, PC, eastern or western, new and old. You're the one going to great lengths to try and say the kinds of games you don't like are bad but not being able to articulate why in a meaningful way.

I know I didn't loop it, but I do distinctly remember blowing up the Death Star. So I probably just got up and left thinking I'd won, maybe some dude got a free play on my back.

Weird thing is, I had almost the same experience with Space Harrier. A friend just got a Master System I gave the game a try and beat it on my first go. Then it would be years before I could clear it again, let along regularly. Some weird ass beginner's luck or something.

I can't play games when I'm stressed. I go for a hike or meditate.

But probably something simple yet engaging like a good puzzler or Space Harrier or something like that. Maybe OutRun.

Have you played Space Harrier? I strongly recommend giving it a try if not. It's similarly simple but sublimely wonderful action.

Not even a little. Because I don't play with the goal of getting good. I play with the goal of having fun. If I'm not having fun, I play or do something else.

If a game is a lot of fun I will play it until I'm really good, but that's for the enjoyment of the game itself. I don't try to get good at something just to get good at it.
