You should be fine, just keep playing. Fishing is more of a side thing, gets you some OP stuff but not required to do. More important is skills and masters. When you use examine it allows a character to potentially learn the skill the enemt just used, I believe only so.e characters can learn some skills though so experiment a bit. Masters are also important. You will meet various npcs who you can "apprentice" under. Doimg so will allow set stat boosts. So for example, a character like Nina wants a master who focuses less on physical attacks and more on magic.

The game is pretty easy but still enjoyable. BoFIV is where things get really good though, one of the best games I ever played.

I always figured Ryu was the easiest since you can't really fuck up his build. Most people just focus on physical damage but he works as nearly anything.
