Dragon Quest V has the most personal story of any JRPG in my opinion. A couple of WRPGs do it well, but man. I really feel like it's the Main Chars (Not Hero) story through and through. Theres no lack of motivation, and I genuinely feel for the characters in the game, which is an accomplishment for a game originally on the SFC.
