I'm so glad it's finally getting some love around here. I've tried shilling it for years to mostly silence, it's just so fucking fun.

It's not really a twin stick shooter but the gameplay is pretty similar and it's truly fantastic. I recommend Granada.

>someone else here mentions Granada for once.

That game is so good, it's a shame so few ever seem to have played it.

It very much depends on what kinds of games you like. What other 8-16 bit types of games do you like?

Granada (pic related)
Ranger-X
Comix Zone
Beyond Oasis
Fantasy Zone

I'd recommend those off the top of my head straight up, but your taste matters more.

Btw if the badness of Wardener puts you off, I was going to recommend Granada which is a legitimately awesome game too few people have played, but I saw that and couldn't resist a troll reply.

Old school twin stick shooter style games but not actually with twin sticks. Anything else similar? I'm so addicted to this game.

Granada is pretty great high action that often seems overlooked. Herzog Zwei is a must play if you haven't yet as is Ranger X.

I would agree with you on this point as well. Achievements as we know them are a new development. That's what makes adding them to older games interesting to me. It puts the old game in a fresh context and maybe gives me something tough to try I hadn't thought of before.

Even if you're not going to add in region switches, getting a soldering iron is a very good idea if you're planning on collecting Genesis games. Especially if you're going through pawn shops which is where a lot of the deals are, these days it's not unusual at all to get a cart that hasn't been played in 10 or so years and the battery is toast. It's not hard to fix, you can find compatible batteries pretty easily but you will need to solder it in.

Though this can actually be used to your advantage. Last summer I was poking around and saw a copy of Phantasy Star IV that a guy wanted $40 for. I wanted a copy to give my friend who stupidly sold his way back, and $40 felt a bit steep but I probably would have got it anyways.

So I ask to try it out, go in and find it can't write saves properly (gotta check cause some of these carts can read saved with a dead battery but not write new ones) and once I showed him the game was toast I told him there way it was worth buying because what's the point of an RPG that you can't save your game.

So after some haggling and also buying General Chaos, Wardener and Granada I talked him down to selling me the cart for 5 bucks "just so I can look like I have the game." lol

Half an hour of work when I got home and *poof!* a fully functioning copy of PSIV for my friend all for a total of about 7 bucks. Pretty sweet.

And as a bonus Granada is pretty fantastic. I'm loving this game right now.
