I like the look of this game.

Anyone knows if pic related is from the GITS PS1 game or some other game?

The PS2 game has a tachikoma mission and it tries to be like the PS1 game, but it just doesn't reach the same level of swift controls (or interesting level design).
I'd play the PS1 game over the PS2 (or any other GITS game really) any day.

>Game itself is also ok but I don't think I made it any further than the 3rd level
Yeah the 3rd level would be the first cockblock for most people since it has a time limit.
I encourage you to try again, and have this in mind: you can move the Fuchikoma faster by holding both L1 and R1 and up or down for going forward and backwards. Without using this, level 3 is more or less impossible.
The rest of the levels are pretty fun and there's a variety of missions. It's also not a long game, since it's more like an arcade experience.

The problem is that most of /a/ thinks people aren't allowed to have an /ar/ board because that'd take stuff from "their" board, even though they condemn discussing old stuff because "it's been discussed to death" and "it encourages rec cirlejerks" or whatever.
/a/ is one of the most retarded elitisms I've ever seen, it's literally "I don't want it, but you can't have it either".
They also say that you have to settle for the "pre-2000 anime" threads, but that's just 1 general thread that gets sunken whenever the new episode of whatever flavor of the month current season shit airs and the board gets spammed with memes.
Truth be told though, it's no use to keep asking /a/ about it, they aren't the ones who have to decide anything. If you want an /ar/ board, you should e-mail Hiroyuki about it, and make threads on /qa/ asking for it.

Not him but I feel like asking, you posted GITS as an example of an ugly game?
It looks ugly in screenshots, but in motion is better. It's kind of bland graphically though, but the gameplay is great, and the soundtrack even better. One of my fav PS1 games

You didn't finish it? It's not a long game.

You actually play as a rookie new character but that doesn't matter because you never really see the characters in-game, you just use a Fuchikoma (which is cool as hell). You can pretend to be Motoko if you want, but she is the one giving orders to you, the rookie.

The game has plenty of Motoko in the cutscenes anyway.

Amazing.
On the surface it's just a third person shooter with weird controls.
Then you get used to the game's controls and mechanics and it's sort of a cuhrazey game where you can go fast, climb on walls and ceilings and do all sort of acrobatics while locking and shooting at shit.
Be sure to use L1 and R1 to dash sideways, and press both at the same time to dash forward or backwards.

The game's engine is pretty unique, as it was made by the guys who also worked on Jumping Flash 1 and 2 for the PS1.

It's one of my favorite games on the system.
If you like Ghost in the Shell, all the better, but be aware it's based more on the manga, not the movie.
The plot is original and it has quality custscenes animated by Production IG, Shirow was also involved in it.
The soundtrack is also top-tier produced by Japan's no. 1 techno producer Takkyu Ishino, with the collaboration of many other techno producers, mainly from Germany. All original tracks.

9/10 for me, wish it was longer, but it has replay value.
