>Is Dino Crisis 1 the best retro survival horror game ever made

Yes, yes it is. It is the pinnacle of Mikami's survival horror art.

What amazes me about it, is that it went as hardcore as it could with survival gameplay mechanics, for instane with ammo, with the item boxes, with the fact that EACH locked door requires not only TWO keys but also a PASSWORD... and yet, it still manages to be amazingly fun. They got the balance perfectly right.

Play the PC or Dreamcast version, they're the best.

The reward is still worth less than the ammo you'll be using to kill him. You'll realize if you do a all Nemesis kill run ammo ends up tight unless you REALLY know what you're doing which is making Freeze Rounds for the grenade launcher to kill Nemesis with.

Besides some of what he drops is useless, like the spray kits.

The M37 Western Shotgun is really fun to use though, such a shame it's acquired so late in the game. Once I cheated to start the game with it just to have fun and do an entire playthrough with it.

shh, he must have played on easy.

I meant adaptor to use PS2 pad XBOX and also GC.
Though GC to XBOX probably exists too. Be aware though that button mapping can differ so if the game won't let you remap buttons you may be stuck with uncomfortable settings.

speaking of details in the bg, Dino Crisis poster in the hospital. Only visible for a split second in the cutscene IIRC and it's barely possible to make out what it is in the PS1 version

There are also plenty of details you can see in the PC versions which is obvious you're not supposed to be able to see. For instance random text re-used in several places, sometimes mirrored, like the "catholic church" sign in places just to create the illusion of details, because they knew it wouldn't be possible to read it on PS1.

See for instance the Dino Crisis poster here in the background. It was hardly possible to make out what it was in the PS1 version.

Some of these should be pretty well known. Others, more uncommon but still should be known to 'serious' RE3 players.

However, this one, is completely new to me, I'd love to see it.
>if you have the Pistol or the Magnum, and manage to dodge a Hunter or Nemesis, sometimes Jill will roll on the ground and end up in another position (one knee on the ground). She fires faster while in this position, and you can spin her around. If you release R1, she stands up.

Pic related, Dino Crisis poster.

Even if you're literaly deaf, you have no excuse for the music box puzzle. You're given 2 solutions, try both of them, one of them is correct.

>Fight
>Pick up Brad's wallet
>enter police station

That's how it's done.

Seriously though, this fight is actually the hardest Nemesis fight in the entire game. All you have is the shotgun and the basic handgun, AND the shotgun is absolute shit against him, its the huge down time after a shot means you're very likely to get hit.

Plus, there aren't many herbs at this point of the game yet.

So the best solution is to use the handgun and be patient. Stay at a mid range distance, shoot 2-3 bulelts, run a little to stay at mid range distance and repeat.
If you do it well he'll never rush towards you, but if he does, dodge by turning in the direction of his "non hitting arm".

RE3 has a lot more fun details to find and explore.

The thing is though, that a LOT of it doesn't make sense because the player wasn't supposed to be able to read it on PS1 due to the lowres backgrounds, but when using the PC versions you can totally read everything and realize that. Like the "catholic church school" sign that is absolutely everywhere , but only to add "detailing" and you're not supposed to be able to see it.

Here is a Dino Crisis poster.

In RE1, upstairs on the mezzanine of the dining room, you can knife zombies safely through the statue. This trick is still possible in REmake.

Know those small elevators outdoor in RE1? They're safeplaces, dogs can't reach them. With the right placement and the right timing, you can knife dogs as they're trying to jump-bite you when you're standing there and are stopped by an invisible wall.

Then, when you come back to the mansion corridor in which dogs jumped through the window, you'll find 2 spiders. You don't exactly NEED to kill those are they're the easiest to dodge, but if you wanted to, you can just stand in between 2 pieces of furniture that are against the wall, and knife the spiders safely.

Obviously you should know that when a spider dies and spawn tons of mini spiders, leaving and re-entering the room makes them disappear.

in RE1 the Tyrant in the lab dies in less than 15 Beretta bullets. In the PC version, this is even hinted by the devs who added an invisible beretta clip at the back of the door, in the shadows near the door (only in PC version).
That's right, all this time you saved your Magnum ammo for nothing.

Now in REmake, the easiest exploit is to bait zombies so that they try to grab you but fail, which will make them do nothing for a couple of seconds and let you safely go through. Just go forward/backwards near one until the action is triggered.
If you play with the modern controls of the HD re-release, this is insanely easy to achieve, which is (one of the reasons) why you shouldn't with those controls, which are a cheat.

So arm yourself with the handgun, enough ammo, and patience.
Stay at the right distance. Not too close, or you'll get hit, not too far or he'll come rushing towards you.
Shoot between 2 and 4 bullets of the handgun (depending on how well you're handling the distance), then start running a bit further, while staying at the correct distance, and repeat.

If he comes running towards you, run. You have to perform a sort of run whereyou do a semi-circle motion when he's close to you, about to punch you, and your must turn towards the arm he is NOT using to punch you. He always uses the same arm to punch, you'll see what I mean.

Most of the times, when he's done running towards you and you avoid his punch, he'll go back to his walking animation, meaning you can resume the "keep at the right distance - shoot a few bullets" situation. Be careful though, SOMETIMES, after you dodge a punch like this, he'll do a 2nd running-punch animation. But I don't think he ever does it more than twice, or maybe it just never happened to me.

If you're knocked-down and he grabs you by the throat, mash every button of the pad like your life depends on it.

After this fight, you'll better weapons, more supplies, it will be easier.
