I think this quote sums up the remaster in a nutshell.

I never played Grandia II, but I did like the first one. It had a similar vibe to Skies of Arcadia which I loved, although it was far more light-hearted.

It does start to drag on a bit from a certain point onwards. The battle system is interesting and different from most RPGs, but there comes a point in the game where you're so powerful that you can pretty much prevent any boss from being able to move more than two or three times in a battle, which makes things a little dull. The only battle I had trouble with was the one against those three lieutenant girls, because that was one of the few boss battles against multiple characters at once and because they can start wailing on you if you allow them to move once too often. I think there's a hack floating around with a better balanced battle system, though.

The voice acting is fine. A little cheesy but that's what I liked about it. It's not like the PS1 had a lot of examples of good voice acting anyways.

I dunno man, some of the dialogue was pretty good. I also liked the battle system quite a bit, although it was a bit too easy to exploit. More turn-based RPGs should have this kind of mechanics. Only shame was that you could basically prevent bosses from ever getting a turn if you just kept attacking. The reverse was also true, but there was only one boss I can remember that really had the numbers and the moves to mess you up, and that was the three commander chicks. There should have been ways to break out of these things to avoid battles being too one-sided.

It was a good JRPG for its time, although it suffers from some of the genre's common flaws (namely that there's a lot of padding in the middle and it just drags on so long).

Eternia is often quoted as the worst mainline Tales game. I liked it, but I do see where they're coming from.

What did piss me off was that right at the end of the multi-stage final boss battle you have to enter a specific button combo, or you die. They do hint that you'll have to do it, but you don't have that much time to decide 'well yeah, this is the moment where i'm supposed to do the thing'.
