Fucking this, the fact that dodging behind cover is the only way to play those games, and that it's essentially a mechanic that has you velcro yourself against a wall, I'll take cover freely thank you, on my own volition.

If there's a bunch of fireballs heading my way, I'll throw myself behind cover, if there's no room to dodge them, or I'll throw myself into a ditch or something like that, during which I'd reload (if I'm playing that kind of .wad).

I think what makes Doom fun is that the enemies have no fear or sense of self-preservation, none at all.
They see you, and they head straight for you, they don't dodge or go for cover, their only goal in life is to kill YOU, they don't care if they get hurt.
This makes the game so much more intense.

Oh, and also that the enemies are varied, ALL of the monsters are cool, some of them are even imposing, or even frightening.

Pic unrelated. It's my favorite pistol, it's the Browning Hi-Power, steel-framed, holds 13 rounds (a whole lot by 1935, when it was invented). I wish someone would add it in a mod or something.
