What do you mean? Sonic made the jump to 3D in 1996, same year as Super Mario 64 and Crash got released, going for Collect-A-Thon sensibilities in the same manner they did, as it was the style for that time, and it did well, Sonic's jump to 3D was near perfect if you ask me, an excellent formula.

I really wish I could give the Saturn version a full playthrough, but all of the hardware I have isn't enough to properly run Saturn emulation... well, maybe one day when I buy something that isn't comparable to a potato in performance I guess.

Travellers' Tales made a bunch of good titles, I'm not sure I could call any of their titles truly great at all, but good? Yeah, surely, at least few of 'em.

>ITT: Incredibly flawed games you like
Sonic 3D Blast's quite flawed... I love it though.

I grew up playing the original and loved it even then, but I'll admit that after playing the DX, it became the definitive version for me, I wish this version had come out in 1996 for Genesis and Saturn, I'm sure that if it did, the reception for this title would be way more positive overall, it deserves more love, it looks, sounds and plays quite well, and exploring the levels is very fun.

If Travellers' Tales had started to work on a 3D Sonic for Saturn from the start, and used all of the stuff from this one, mechanics and levels, but in full 3D, it would've been a hit, I'm sure of that.

"An acclaimed trilogy beloved by even Nintendo fans back then during the peak of console wars was actually always fundamentally flawed and not good video games at all" isn't revisionism? Do you have any idea how ridiculous you guys actually sound? It's downright pretentious...

I genuinely love exploring this level, most of the levels in Sonic 3D Blast in fact, as they're actually well designed... but without the shield that gives you protection from fire, this can be quite tough.

It's good to see other CHAD Sonic 3D Blast enjoyers on this board, this one was SOVL...

P.S. I'm not even joking, the level design in it feels genuinely fun to explore and play too.

I'm fine with whatever for the other 29 as long as Sonic 3D Blast is in it...

Not at all, most people here would probably go and agree that it's quite mediocre... but it has its fans, because there's a lot to like about it, which can change from player to player, to some it's the low polygon graphics in the 3D stages from the Saturn version, but for others there are more reasons too. I usually go for the Genesis version, so my reasoning for liking it isn't its 3D stuff.

I personally enjoy stuff like Super Mario 64 and Banjo-Kazooie for Nintendo 64, and this feels as if SEGA went and made a Sonic title inspired by that style of platformer... and it works just fine!

While I agree that the controls aren't great, it's not a huge issue as you get a feel for them over a playthrough, and then there's the graphics and OST, which is excellent, and the levels... which to me really make or break platformers that follow this style, but here level design is superb, just so much fun to explore as you go from point A to point B getting everything you need to collect.

It's interesting that SEGA has Sonic 3D Blast, with its 2 main characteristics being pre-rendered graphics and isometric gameplay, and then they made a couple of portable titles, one with the pre-rendered graphics, and another with the isometric gameplay. A shame that both paled in comparison to Sonic 3D Blast though, that one was also flawed, but still holds up and is fun.

I adored Sonic 3D Blast as a kid, and to be honest I still do, of course I get why most dislike it, but it was a technical marvel on the Genesis, somehow they managed to fit it on a 32 megabit cartridge, Traveller's Tales was really something else... STI being commissioned to make Sonic X-Treme was a mistake, it should've been Traveller's Tales, I'm sure we would've gotten a superb 3D Sonic title.

P.S. I recommend GameHut's channel on YouTube where Jon Burton, who programmed a bunch of Traveller's Tales famous titles from then, goes in deep detail about how they pulled all them off.

>Is there anyone in the same boot?
I'm not quite there yet, thankfully... but Sonic's the one I play the most by FAR. Did you always play Sonic more, OP? Why do you feel that you have been struggling with this? Why don't you tolerate other platformers?
