I checked, and the DS version definitely cuts off pixels.

One odd thing I noticed is that the SNES version doesn't use the bottom 13 rows most of the time. So in some cases, the DS gains 13 pixels on the bottom, but loses 32 pixels from the top, for a net loss of 19 pixel rows. It's basically a pan and scan crop of the original.

I guess it's better than a distorted rescaling of the full picture, but you're definitely losing a chunk of the original image on the DS version.

On the other hand, in the DS version you can move the battle menus to the bottom screen, giving you an unobstructed view of the combat.
