The N64 version constantly switches resolutions, and I mean constantly like for every camera angle.

The only times it actually goes 480p is in close-up camera angles of rooms devoid of enemies. Like >>9590880
It happens about 2-3 times in the different game. Good for magazine screenshots and make believe "we're high res!!!"
Rest of the time it uses those weird ass resolutions as seen in this pic, and the same camera angle may use a different res depending on whether there are still enemies in the room or if the room is empty, but even if the room is empty, it almost never goes up to 480p. When 5-7 zombioes are around, the resolution is LOWER than the 320*240 of the PSX version.

Note also that the higher the res, the more cropped the backgrounds become.
Either way, the game is dealing with backgrounds converted to JPGs, with the loss of quality that implies, but also cropped at the bottom/top and stretched to compensate the cropping. That, on top of 3D models using lower res textures too.

There are a couple of glitches as well, like some cutscene images and text being given wrong palettes, or the controls not responding immiediately when you abruptly choose to go to the opposite direction.

Also worse visual effects as noted in the webms above

Then, you have the FMVs. Convereted to a lower res AND also cropped. It looks like the framerate was cut in half and then artificially doubled by the game's programming but I'm not sure about that one. Also, several pieces of FMVs are missing: the part where you see Leon/Claire before the chopper crashes and a mix-match was done for the Anette Birkin and ending cutscenes, so that they could play the same cutscenes no matter which scenario it is (but their mix match doesn''t fit in any scenario, so it's a mess). Iirc the alternate ending theme is also missing, the one for the true ending.

and then, there is the N64 version

>run towards the end of the game
>leon freezes for quite some time as the game counts the number of potential polygons in the room to decide the resolution of the next camera angle
>okay there is no enemy on this next screen but they can potentially get there so we use a slightly higher resolution but not too big a leap either
>the screen flashes due to the resolution changing from 326*234 to 392*280
>thankfully the backgrounds were cropped, stretched and converted to JPEG so the time saved to load them compensates
>finally resuming playing
>walk to the next camera angle change which takes about 1.5 seconds
>repeat the process but this time it's back to 326*324 because there are two zombies there

Only on Nintendo 64
