I've recently got the c64c with kung fu flash so I've been limited to cartridge roms. I've been using a compilation called one load which converts a lot of floppy games to cartridge with almost no loading times. I've been playing atari 2600 for the last few weeks so now going onto 64 so remember that this system was active between late atari 2600 and the earlier part of the nes so don't crap on it for not being like 1992 nes games.

Just going through random games is great, some have smooth scrolling, other use hi rez while others are pc style adventure games.

>stuff I tried
1942, compares ok to the nes
1943, made it a lot worse somehow
zaxxon nice graphics but ship moves weird, might be pal ntsc thing
720 skateboarding, nice music and you don't notice the low rez on a crt
zx speccy ports often have a nice tune to hum along to
wonderboy, pretty good, controls could be better
a lot of atari conversions like river raid are nice

>my thoughts
surprisingly nes smooth scrolling quality games
no music on too many games
good early arcade stuff like moon patrol
randomly great music
low budget stuff more comparable to atari but can be fun
stuff that beats nes sometimes
feels like a real game machine vs the spectrum
great fun

combining hi rez and low rez while scrolling

c64 had budget games which could often just be single screen games, nes barely had them. They shouldn't be compared, budget c64 games you would just get while at the supermarket.

just going through c64 and there are plenty of good nes like games

>>10488564
c64 seems pretty smooth to me even if not everyone was able to do it, paperboy is perfectly smooth and thats from 1986

a lot of msx conversions were made but they are not perfectly accurate

pac man was way worse than expected, msx version is very close to the arcade. Its only 8k which is just twice the atari 2600 version.
